On Thursday, media reported that Apple was in talks to secure more film licensing from Walt Disney, in order to expand its streaming product portfolio.

Streaming platforms have been seeking to expand their product libraries, spending hundreds of millions of dollars to secure the rights to movies and live sports programming to attract subscribers in a highly competitive market.

Apple was reported to have successfully secured the rights to about 50 films from Walt Disney earlier this year, which encouraged it to pursue more content.

The iPhone maker did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Apple TV+ streaming service has become known for its original series, such as Ted Lasso, The Morning Show and Slow Horses, and has stood out in the streaming space for its focus on internal content, while most competitors also offer other studios’ older movies and television shows.

The strategy has earned Apple TV+ 72 Emmy nominations across categories.

However, according to market research firm Antenna, Apple TV+ is one of the streaming platforms with the most cancellations, while Netflix has the lowest.
