Apollo Global Management Inc. is expanding its investment focus to include artificial intelligence (AI), defense, and infrastructure in Europe. The New York-based firm is positioning itself to capitalize on the significant investment opportunities presented by these sectors. According to Tristram Leach, co-head of European credit at Apollo, Europe requires an estimated $18 trillion in investment to catch up in these areas [1].

Leach highlighted that private market funds, like Apollo, will play a crucial role alongside public markets and banks in meeting Europe's investment needs. The continent is currently mobilizing financing and working to streamline regulations to jump-start its fragmented defense industry. NATO members have agreed to substantially increase their military spending, with Germany alone set to double its annual defense budget.

The potential for growth in these sectors is not limited to defense. Leach also noted that Europe has been underinvesting in infrastructure and digital infrastructure, as well as AI. Blue-chip funds such as Carlyle Group Inc. and Ares Management Corp., as well as boutique investment shops like Pemberton Asset Management, are also recognizing the opportunities in defense-related companies.

Apollo's credit business manages $690 billion in assets across public and private markets as of June 30 [1]. By focusing on these sectors, Apollo aims to contribute to Europe's economic development while pursuing profitable investment opportunities.
