Animoca Brands Partners With Sony's Soneium For Anime Identity Layer
Animoca Brands has announced a strategic partnership with Soneium, an Ethereum Layer 2 open blockchain developed by SonySONY-- and powered by Optimism’s Superchain technology. This collaboration aims to enhance the digital identity infrastructure on the Soneium blockchain, with a particular focus on anime-related experiences. Moca Network, Animoca Brands’ flagship digital identity infrastructure platform, will create a premierPINC-- identity layer on Soneium, starting with Anime ID, a decentralized identifier (DID) and reputation layer spearheaded by San FranTokyo, a core contributor to Anime Foundation. This integration will enable users to maintain embedded accounts, unique identities, and credentials as they explore various decentralized applications (dApps) on Soneium.
San FranTokyo’s Anime ID will be the first to adopt Moca Network’s Account, Identity, and Reputation SDK (AIR SDK) to integrate into the Soneium blockchain. This move is expected to enhance user engagement on anime-related experiences on Soneium. Additionally, San FranTokyo will launch anime-inspired cultural campaigns on Soneium, aiming to onboard anime fans to Sony’s blockchain and connect them to new anime-themed experiences.
Soneium, developed by Sony Block Solutions Labs (SBSL), is a joint initiative focused on transcending boundaries with the open internet. Sony Group Corporation, through Soneium, aims to fill the world with emotion through the power of creativity and technology, aligning with the fundamental human aspiration to stay connected and share experiences.
Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating that it marks a step towards an interconnected Web3 future. By integrating Moca Network’s identity infrastructure, the partnership aims to create a seamless digital ecosystem, empowering Soneium users with unified digital identities that bridge anime, gaming, and blockchain technologies.
Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs of Soneium, echoed this sentiment, noting that the partnership enables the establishment of an identity and reputation layer on Soneium. The anime industry, being one of the largest entertainment sectors, presents immense potential. By integrating Moca Network’s AIR SDK and Anime ID into Soneium, and launching anime-inspired cultural campaigns, the goal is to onboard global anime fans to the blockchain, enabling them to collaborate, create, and infuse the world with emotion.
David Taing, head of San FranTokyo, expressed excitement about launching Anime ID on Soneium. He emphasized that, together with Moca Network and Soneium, San FranTokyo will work with global and industry partners to connect, onboard, and empower anime fans to new anime-inspired experiences across ecosystems.
This partnership underscores the growing trend of integrating blockchain technology with entertainment industries, particularly anime, to create more immersive and interconnected digital experiences. By leveraging Moca Network’s identity infrastructure and San FranTokyo’s Anime ID, Soneium aims to provide a seamless and engaging platform for anime fans, fostering a sense of community and collaboration within the blockchain ecosystem.
