This initiative is part of a broader effort to address critical water and wastewater infrastructure needs across the nation. The company's leadership, including President and CEO John Griffith and Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Cheryl Norton, recently participated in a companywide fly-in to engage with policymakers in Washington, D.C. The discussions focused on sustainable, long-term solutions to address the challenges faced by water utilities, including issues related to PFAS, lead, copper, and aging infrastructure.

The fly-in highlighted the urgent need for substantial investment in water infrastructure, as underscored by the American Society of Civil Engineers' 2025 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure. The report gave the nation's drinking water systems a grade of “C-” and wastewater systems a grade of “D+,” emphasizing the severe challenges facing U.S. water and wastewater utilities. American Water's leadership held discussions with representatives from over 40 congressional offices, focusing on policy issues that affect water utilities, investment in infrastructure, clean water access, and other key legislative priorities.

With over 14 million people served in 14 states and on 18 military installations, American Water is committed to addressing water and wastewater challenges through significant capital investments. The company's ongoing initiatives aim to ensure safe, clean, reliable, and affordable drinking water and wastewater services for its customers.
