The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water (NYSE: AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., has announced the launch of its 2025 Water and Environment Grant Program. This initiative aims to support community partners in promoting clean water, conservation, environmental education, climate variability, and water-based recreation projects.

The Foundation invites organizations served by American Water and located in specific states, including California, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia, as well as its Military Services locations, to apply for grants. The program focuses on three pillars of giving: Water, People, and Communities, streamlining the grant experience for community partners and strengthening the Foundation's charitable impact across American Water's footprint.
In 2024, the American Water Charitable Foundation awarded a combined total of $1 million to 59 organizations in 11 states, supporting projects like the North Branch Land Trust's Hanover Crossings Marsh Preserve in Pennsylvania. The grant was used to encourage equitable access to land and water resources, implement good stewardship practices, and improve wildlife habitat and outdoor nature-based recreation access.
"The American Water Charitable Foundation is thrilled to launch the 2025 Water and Environment Grant Program, which supports impactful initiatives and programs throughout the U.S.," said Carrie Williams, President of the American Water Charitable Foundation. "Our mission to Keep Communities Flowing empowers communities to understand the importance of water education and conservation, while also encouraging local organizations to engage in protecting this vital resource."
Applications for the 2025 Water and Environment Grant Program will be accepted from eligible organizations, with more information available on the American Water Charitable Foundation's website. By supporting this grant program, American Water and its employees demonstrate their ongoing commitment to being good neighbors, citizens, and contributors to the communities they serve.
