Amazon (AMZN.US) to invest nearly $18M in AI to mitigate flood risk at data centers.

Amazon (AMZN.US) announced on Monday that it would use artificial intelligence to reduce the risk of flooding in the northeast of Spain, where it is building a data center. The company said it would invest 17.2 million euros (US$1.79 million) to modernize infrastructure and optimize water use in agriculture to reduce the risk of flooding in Aragon, where its data center is located. Amazon will deploy an early warning system using advanced cloud computing technology that combines real-time data collection with an advanced sensor network and artificial intelligence analysis to help the capital of Aragon, Zaragoza, monitor the risk of flooding. The platform will monitor weather conditions and water flow and provide emergency services and flood warnings.
