A 25-year-old man from Alabama, Eric Council Jr, has pleaded guilty in a Washington federal court to conspiracy to commit aggravated identity theft and access device fraud. The charges stem from his involvement in the hacking of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) "X" account in January 2024. Council admitted to posting a false announcement on the platform, claiming the approval of the first Bitcoin spot ETF, which caused the price of Bitcoin to skyrocket.
