The CEO of ZoomZM--, Eric Yuan, recently joined a growing chorus of business and tech leaders—including Bill Gates, Jensen Huang of NVIDIANVDA--, and Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase—in predicting that the traditional five-day workweek is likely to shift toward a three-day model in the near future, driven by the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the workplace. Yuan emphasized during a recent public address that AI is not merely enhancing efficiency but fundamentally redefining how and where work is conducted. He noted that as AI tools become more integrated into daily workflows, companies are increasingly able to reduce the number of hours required to achieve the same or greater output.

Yuan pointed to Zoom’s own experience with AI as an example. The company has been investing heavily in AI-powered features such as real-time language translation, automated meeting summaries, and intelligent transcription services. These tools, he argued, are allowing employees to work more strategically, reducing the need for time-intensive tasks such as manual note-taking and repetitive communication. "The role of human workers is evolving," Yuan stated. "We are no longer doing what AI can do better."

Bill Gates, in a recent interview, similarly highlighted how AI is enabling a more flexible and autonomous workforce. "AI is not a replacement for humans, but an assistant," he said. "When people can focus on high-level thinking and creativity while AI handles the mundane, you get a more efficient and satisfying work environment." This sentiment was echoed by Jensen Huang, who noted that AI is already transforming industries such as healthcare, finance, and education, making it possible for fewer people to maintain higher productivity levels.

Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan ChaseJPM--, has also expressed cautious optimism about the future of work in the AI era. In a recent investor report, Dimon wrote that while AI will disrupt traditional labor markets, it will also create new opportunities for remote work and part-time employment, especially in knowledge-based industries. He predicted that within the next five years, many companies will adopt a three-day workweek model as a way to retain talent and improve employee well-being.

Despite these positive forecasts, the transition is expected to be gradual. Companies are still grappling with the integration of AI into their operations, and there is ongoing debate about the ethical implications and the need for retraining. However, the consensus among leaders appears to be clear: AI is a key driver in the evolution of work, and the three-day workweek is no longer a distant dream but an emerging reality.
