Technology stocks plunged in Asia on September 14, as leaders of top tech companies endorsed calls for "braking" the pace of AI development. The Nikkei 225 in Tokyo fell 0.8% to 63,498.61 points, while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong and Shanghai Composite in Shanghai dropped 0.2% to 24,764.02 points and 3,878.88 points, respectively. Tech producers led the selloff, after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodeo called for AI companies to control the pace of the technology, prompting support from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI CEO Elon Musk. Despite President Donald Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson's reassurances, investors sold off tech stocks on September 14. SoftBank, the largest tech investor, plummeted over 12% in Tokyo.
