Lapwing Breeding Soars in Co Mayo Amid Conservation Efforts

Lapwing breeding rate soars in Co Mayo thanks to conservation efforts. The bird, nationally endangered, has seen a "bumper breeding season" with at least 143 chicks raised by 67 pairs. Conservation charity Birdwatch Ireland implemented habitat restoration, predator exclusion fences, and upgraded protection to exclude otters and American minks. The charity's efforts have led to a significant increase in breeding numbers since 2011.
