Fiserv's Q1 Earnings Disappoint Despite New Small-Business Platform Rollout
Fiserv reported Q1 2026 earnings with revenue of $5.03 billion, down from $5.13 billion YoY, and net income of $571 million, compared to $1.51 diluted EPS from continuing operations. The weaker earnings arrive after the rollout of new small-business tools like CashFlow Central within the Experience Digital platform. This contrasts with ongoing product progress and may affect Fiserv's investment narrative and expectations.
Fiserv, Inc. (NASDAQ: FISV) reported first-quarter 2026 earnings on May 5, with GAAP revenue of $5.03 billion, a 2% decline compared to $5.13 billion in the same period of 2025. Adjusted revenue for the quarter was $4.68 billion, also down 2% year over year. The company’s GAAP earnings per share (EPS) came in at $1.07, a 29% decrease from $1.51 in the prior-year period, while adjusted EPS was $1.79, a 16% decline from $2.14 in Q1 2025.
The earnings report reflects a challenging operating environment, with GAAP operating margin at 18.3% for the quarter, down from 27.2% in Q1 2025. Organic revenue, which excludes the impact of foreign currency, acquisitions, and dispositions, decreased by 4%, with the Financial Solutions segment experiencing a 6% decline and the Merchant Solutions segment down 1%.
Fiserv’s CEO, Mike Lyons, noted that the company remained in “execution mode” during the quarter and affirmed its full-year 2026 outlook, including organic revenue growth of 1% to 3% and adjusted EPS of $8.00 to $8.30. The company also highlighted progress on its One Fiserv Action Plan, a multi-year transformation initiative aimed at improving operational efficiency and leveraging artificial intelligence.
Despite these strategic efforts, the earnings results contrast with recent product advancements, such as the launch of CashFlow Central, a small-business tool integrated into the Experience Digital platform. The weaker-than-expected financial performance may influence investor sentiment and raise questions about the company’s ability to sustain growth amid ongoing market challenges.
