Jim Simons is an American hedge fund manager, investor, mathematician, and philanthropist. He is the founder of Renaissance Technologies, an esteemed quantitative trading hedge fund firm that manages about $50 billion. Simons spent 12 full years searching for a successful investing formula, without much success until he and Berlekamp built a computer model capable of digesting vast amounts of financial data and identifying profitable trading opportunities. In addition to his success in the financial industry, Simons is also a distinguished professor in the Department of Plant Biology and serves as the Director of the New Use Agriculture and Natural Plant Products Program Office.
