**Special maintenance** refers to anticipated but infrequent activities required to maintain the aesthetic and/or structural aspects of works of art in a collection, as well as the integrity of the overall surface and/or individual elements. It may also involve a period during which the vendor may suspend the availability of a subscription, in whole or in part, to address a Severity 1 Error. The term can further encompass any maintenance that does not fall under normal general maintenance, such as addressing specific requirements for a system or addressing issues related to monitoring, testing, access, and signage. Special maintenance may involve restoration, reinforcement, or complete refurbishment of structural parts of a building, such as load-bearing walls and pillars. It is typically carried out in exceptional cases and aims to ensure the safety and maintenance of energy and aesthetic performance of the building over time.
