Uniqueness

    • User-Friendly & Community-Oriented: Incredibly easy to use interface, perfect for beginners or mobile-first investors. The app makes investing feel accessible, with social features (community feed, ability to follow other investors) that enhance learning and engagement.

    • Alpha: The AI Investing Co-Pilot: Alpha is an AI-powered investment research tool built on OpenAI’s GPT-4 large language model. It is designed to help users analyze assets, access real-time and historical data, and receive market context through a natural-language interface.

    • Unique Options Rebate: Pays you to trade options – Public rebates – per contract, sharing half of its earnings from market makers. This is a novel perk, essentially reducing trading costs further for options enthusiasts.

    • Cash Interest (Treasury Account): Public offers a high-yield option for uninvested cash via its Treasury account (around 5–6% APY, by investing in government bonds). This means your idle cash can earn solid interest, especially for Premium members.

Risk Considerations

      • Limited Advanced Tools: Public lacks advanced trading or analysis tools – no advanced charting or custom screeners for stocks. It’s not suitable for technical day traders or those wanting to run complex analyses. Essentially, it’s simplistic by design, which advanced users may find limiting.

      • No Mutual Funds or Futures: Public does not support mutual funds (relying on ETFs instead), and it has no futures, commodities, or forex offerings. Investors who need these will have to use another broker.

      • Extra Fees for Some Trades: While basic trading is free, Public "nickel-and-dimes" non-Premium users on certain actions. For example, OTC/penny stock trades and after-hours trades cost each, and using the multi-asset "Investment Plan" feature costs – per plan trade. These fees can add up unless you pay /month for Premium to waive them.

About public.com

Public.com didn’t start in a trading pit or on Wall Street. It started with a question: What if investing felt more human? At a time when brokerage apps were racing to remove fees and gamify the markets, Public chose a different path-one built on community, transparency, and access. Launched by Jannick Malling and Leif Abraham, Public set out to democratize investing not just through $0 commissions, but by giving everyday investors a voice. They added a social layer to the stock market, allowing users to follow friends, influencers, and analysts-learning from one another in real time. But they didn’t stop there. Public expanded beyond stocks, offering access to Treasuries, crypto, and even alternative assets, all in one clean, intuitive app. Then came the twist: while others charged to trade options, Public flipped the model and paid users via options rebates. In a world of faceless trades and soulless dashboards, Public built a place to belong-where investing feels less like a game, and more like a conversation.
